Record cold still possible for CK

Chatham-Kent may not have broken any low-temperature records Wednesday but that doesn't mean the area is out of the woods yet.

According to Environment Canada Meteorologist Gerald Cheng, the record low for January 30 is -27.2 C. That record was set in 1915. And while the temperature in the Chatham-area went down to just -21.4 C Wednesday, Cheng said there is still potential to see a new record low Thursday.

"The old record was set back 1899 at -23.3 C," Cheng said. "Now we are forecasting a low of -27 C. That could be a record so we will have to wait and see."

Cheng added that, as of right now, setting a record low on Friday is a long shot.

"The minimum temperature record was set in 1899 at -21.7 C so we will have to wait and see," Cheng said. "There could be some cloud cover that could come Thursday night and Friday morning that would prevent our temperatures from getting very, very low. That can change so we are certainly monitoring the situation."

Cheng added with the Extreme Cold Warning in effect, anything can happen.
