The number of active COVID-19 cases in Chatham-Kent is now up to 23 after 14 new cases were confirmed on Tuesday.
The jump in cases came one day after the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit reported there were only 12 active cases.
As of Tuesday afternoon, three cases were marked as resolved which marks 414 total recoveries in Chatham-Kent. No positive cases have been hospitalized and the number of total deaths is still three.
A new outbreak has been declared at an unspecified workplace. A public relations officer with the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit confirmed to Blackburn News that the outbreak "is at a non-public facing workplace in Chatham-Kent".
The Public Health Unit is also working with another local school following a positive COVID-19 test result.
The Lambton Kent District School Board has listed Queen Elizabeth II Public School - Chatham as having one confirmed case. Although letters have been issued to parents and guardians, the health unit said only those who had close contact with a positive case will be contacted directly to provide further direction.
Positive COVID-19 cases were previously identified at Chatham-Kent Secondary School, Tecumseh Public School, and McNaughton Avenue Public School. However, the schools remain open.
Walpole Island First Nation now only has one active case of COVID-19 after one case was marked as resolved on Tuesday and no new cases were reported.
The province recorded its highest daily increase in new cases on Tuesday at 1,388. Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott also said 781 cases were marked as resolved.
