COVID-19 outbreak declared at LTC home in Thornbury

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is working with Errinrung Long-Term Care Home in Thornbury after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Contact tracing is being done to determine any close contacts of the staff member, both in and outside of the work environment.

Only those who are deemed a close contact will be contacted directly by health officials. Meanwhile, staff and residents at the long-term care facility have been directed to get tested for COVID-19.

There only needs to be one COVID-19 case in order to trigger an automatic outbreak at a long-term care facility, as per the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care guidelines.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is currently working with two other long-term care facilities that have active COVID-19 outbreaks. Those were previously identified as The Village Long-Term Care Home in Hanover and Lee Manor Long-Term Care Facility in Owen Sound.

The health unit confirmed six new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, two in Arran Elderslie, and one each in Owen Sound, Blue Mountains, Brockton, Huron Kinloss. There are currently 31 active cases of COVID-19 under the Grey Bruce Health Unit's jurisdiction.
