The London region's total number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 3,000 as it logged another 86 new infections and one additional death on Monday.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said the latest death was a man in his 60s who was not connected to a long-term care or retirement home. The death brings the area's death toll up to 99.
Monday's newly confirmed laboratory cases are just one shy of the region's highest single-day record of 87, which was set last Tuesday. The total case count since the start of the pandemic now sits at 3,006.
The number of outbreaks across London and Middlesex continues to grow. There are currently 12 outbreaks in local long-term care and retirement homes. The following facilities are dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks: Country Terrace, Dearness Home, Earls Court Village, Extendicare, Glendale Crossing, McGarrell Place, Middlesex Terrace, Mount Hope Centre for Long-Term Care, Oakcrossing Retirement Living, People Care Oak Crossing, Sisters of St. Joseph, and Westmount Gardens.
The London Health Sciences Centre has ongoing outbreaks on two units - C5-100 ENT/Burns/Plastics at Victoria Hospital and 4IP General Medicine at University Hospital. All other outbreaks within the hospitals have been resolved. The remaining outbreak at Victoria Hospital has infected less than five patients and less than five staff members. While the remaining outbreak at University Hospital has infected 52 staff members and 50 patients. Thirteen deaths are also linked to it.
Despite the winter break, the Thames Valley District school board continues to confirm new cases of the virus within its schools. The latest schools identified to have a single case each are H.B. Beal Secondary School and White Oaks Public School. Outbreaks continue at eight schools in the London region.
Resolved cases in London and Middlesex County have risen to 2,361. That leaves 546 cases active.
In Elgin and Oxford, there were 27 new cases confirmed on Monday. That is down slightly from 37 on Sunday. Southwestern Public Health said the area's total case count stands at 1,159 cases. There were no additional deaths and resolved cases went up to 883, leaving 264 active cases. Outbreaks remain at six long-term care/retirement facilities - Elgin Manor, Seasons Retirement Home St. Thomas, PeopeCare Tavistock, Maple Manor Nursing Home in Tillsonburg, Terrace Lodge and Chartwell Aylmer.
As Monday is a statutory holiday, the province is not releasing updated COVID-19 numbers. Instead, Monday's data will be included with the figures released on Tuesday.
