Organizers and volunteers of the annual golf tournament to raise money for the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) are "over the moon" after crushing a fundraising record.
CKHA Foundation President and CEO Mary Lou Crowley said the 17th Annual Charity Golf Tournament raised a record-setting $110,340 to buy a new sterilization system to clean medical equipment for the hospitals. Last year's golf tournament raised approximately $83,500.
Crowley said they are thrilled about the tournament's massive success. She offered sincere thanks to all of the sponsors, golfers, and volunteers for making it all possible.
"Over the moon because of the results and achievement. I tell you, our community, our sponsors [they're great], it was a phenomenal day for such a great cause. I would say in golf terms, was that an eagle or what?" said Crowley.
Crowley said it was an amazing day of golf, fun, and community spirit.
"I really do believe, it's our hospital. What the hospital has gone through, our frontline workers, the need for more support for healthcare right across the board, and I think that's what inspired a lot of people to give this year," she said.
Crowley said the annual golf tournament is a lot of work, but it's worth it because it helps improve local healthcare every year.
"It's what the hospital needs and coming through a pandemic, we know that sterilization has and will always be top priority. This piece of equipment is about sterilization of the medical equipment and making sure that bacteria and viruses aren't lying around," Crowley said.
The 2022 tournament was presented by Entegrus on Friday at Maple City Country Club and was chaired by John Schinkel.
