Residents of Wheatley will get an update next week about the investigation into last summer's downtown explosion.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said an in-person town hall meeting will be held September 15, 2022 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Wheatley Arena to give residents a chance to ask questions.
The municipality said crews installed a new casing inside the conductor pipe on the third and last well last week to help plug the well. Officials said the casing was cemented in place and work on the well will continue this week with geotechnical testing to test the cement bond and determine what's next before completely plugging the well.
Those wishing to attend the meeting in person can sign up at Eventbrite by clicking here.
Anyone unable to attend the town hall meeting in person or who wishes to participate virtually will be able to watch the meeting live on the Municipal Facebook and YouTube channels.
Municipal officials continue reminding residents to immediately call 9-1-1 if at any time they smell gas at the site.
A few hydrogen sulphide leaks took place at the site around 15 Erie Street North starting in June of 2021 before a blast on August 26, 2021 damaged a few buildings and injured several people.
