Police ping stolen cell phone to track down break-in suspect
A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after police were able to track down a suspect in a break-in by pinging a stolen cell phone.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called to investigate the break and enter in progress on Maynard Line in Harwich Township at around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday after the homeowners saw someone running away from their home when they got back.
They were able to provide police with a description of the suspect and his vehicle and officers were able to match that up with a man who was inside a vehicle on Foster Street in Chatham.
Police said they were able to find the suspect using "various efforts" including pinging a cell phone that was stolen from the residence.
Officers said the man tried to run away from police, but they were able to catch up with him and arrested him.
When police were searching the man, they allegedly found some property that had been stolen from the home.
Through their investigation, police also learned that the man was bound by a release order and was wanted on outstanding warrants from Windsor police and Essex County OPP.
The accused was charged with several offences including possession of stolen property and resisting arrest and he was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police find fentanyl on break-in suspect
A 33-year-old Chatham man has been arrested in connection with a daytime break-in at a business on Queens Line in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said they found the suspect inside the property that was broken into after they followed up on an alarm at the business at 5:01 p.m. Thursday.
Officers said the man they found there was also wanted on outstanding warrants and allegedly had some fentanyl in his possession.
He was arrested, charged, and taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
