CK residents invited to share condolences for Queen Elizabeth

Chatham-Kent residents mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II now have a few ways to offer their condolences.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has a public condolence book available at the Civic Centre in Chatham for residents to sign.

Residents who wish to sign the book in person can do so from Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Additionally, those wishing to share messages virtually may do so on the municipality's website by clicking here.

Flags across Chatham-Kent were also lowered to half-staff following the news of her passing.

The Queen passed away on Thursday at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth ascended to the Throne on February 6, 1952 after the death of her father, King George VI. Her reign lasted 70 years and seven months, the longest of any British Monarch. She was also the Canadian head of state.

Her passing has set off a 10-day mourning period in the U.K. and brought tributes from around the world.

The government of Canada has also launched an online condolence book for members of the public to sign, which has garnered over 15,000 messages as of Friday afternoon.
