Man accused of opening fraudulent bank account
A 44-year-old Blenheim man is facing charges after he allegedly opened a bank account online using someone else's identification and was caught while trying to open a second one.
Chatham-Kent police said the man opened the online account on Sunday and then tried to open another bank account on Tuesday using the same identification and supporting documents.
Officers said when he tried to open the second account at a bank on St. Clair Street in Chatham, he was "recognized for previous fraudulent activities" and police were called in.
The account was not activated and man took off before police arrived.
Officers found him just before 1:45 p.m. Tuesday and arrested him.
Police said he was carrying identification for three other people, but all with his picture.
The man was arrested and charged with four counts of identity theft, three counts of uttering a forged document, and one count of identity fraud.
He was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for failing to show up for court
Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a 51-year-old Chatham man who was allegedly wanted on "several" warrants for failing to show up for his court dates.
Police said they found him while they were following up on some suspicious activity in the Ontario Court of Justice parking lot on Grand Avenue West in Chatham just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The man was arrested and taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
