Hot and humid weather conditions may subside soon, as scattered thunderstorms are expected to move through parts of southwestern Ontario Tuesday afternoon.
Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Oxford County.
However, the watches were later upgraded to severe thunderstorm warnings for Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, and Strathroy. Goderich and southern Huron County are also under severe thunderstorm warnings.
All warnings were downgraded to watches before 7 p.m.
By 10 p.m., all watches and warnings had been called off, except in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, which remain under a severe thunderstorm watch.
The national weather agency said scattered thunderstorms are expected to move in ahead of a cold front.
Severe thunderstorms may produce localized heavy rainfall, gusty winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour, and hail (ranging from the size of a nickel to a ping-pong ball).
Residents are reminded to be cautious during severe storms as strong winds can toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Large hail can also cause injury or property damage.
