Quebec woman connected to fraud cases in two provinces arrested in Chatham-Kent

A 28-year-old Quebec woman is facing a fraud charge after she allegedly tried to open a business account at a bank in Wallaceburg under a fake name.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the Scotiabank in Wallaceburg at 3:20 p.m. Thursday for that.

Investigators said staff started getting suspicious when they noticed some "inconsistencies" with the woman's I.D.

Police said they also learned the woman had allegedly been involved in the same crime in other cities and was facing similar charges in Ottawa, Halton Region, and New Brunswick.

Officers added that one of the conditions of her release from police in Ottawa and St. John required her to stop carrying identification that wasn't in her legal name.

The accused was arrested by CK police and charged with fraud, uttering a forged document, and failing to comply with her release conditions.

She was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Police catch man who tried to slip out the back door

A 46-year-old Chatham-Kent man who tried to dodge police by taking a backdoor exit found some officers there waiting to greet him.

CK police said they caught up with the man after they were called to a residence on Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham for a disturbance at around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police said when they knocked on the door of the residence, the man tried to give them the slip by sneaking out the back, but officers were there waiting for him.

Officers said the man had been released three times before with conditions that required him to stay away from a specific woman who was at the residence and to stop communicating with her.

Police said their investigation also led them to believe that the woman at the residence was allowing the man to stay there, despite that being against his release conditions.

As a result, a 46-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order. He was taken to police custody and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

A 44-year-old Chatham woman was also arrested in connection with the investigation and was charged with two counts of facilitating a breach of conditions. She was later arrested and released with a future court date.
