'Highly intoxicated' man tasered and taken into custody
A 55-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after he allegedly held a steel pipe towards officers who were following up on some screams that were heard from an apartment.
Chatham-Kent police said they found the man shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday on Queen Street in Chatham and said he was "highly intoxicated" and "behaving aggressively."
Officers said the man grabbed a steel pipe and held it in a threatening manner towards them when they tried to make sure he was safe.
The man then allegedly refused to comply with multiple requests to drop the pipe, so they used a taser on him before taking him into custody.
Police said they were able to arrest the man without incident after that.
The accused was charged with assaulting a police officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was taken to police headquarters and was held there until he sobered up.

Man accused of assault in domestic case
A 35-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault after an argument took a violent turn.
Police said they were called to an address in Chatham at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday and learned that a man had been arguing with a woman when he allegedly called her names and then shoved her twice.
The woman contacted a friend and the police got involved after that.
Officers said a 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault. He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Man arrested after he was kicked out of the Legion in Blenheim
A 49-year-old Blenheim man spent some time sobering up in police custody after he was asked to leave the Blenheim Legion late Thursday night.
Police said he was asked to leave at around 11 p.m. Thursday because he had been "belligerent with staff."
The man was allegedly highly intoxicated, uncooperative, and unable to care for himself when police found him.
He was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held until he was sober.
