"Highly intoxicated" woman arrested in Chatham

A 48-year-old Chatham woman spent some time sobering up in police custody after she was spotted walking in and out of traffic in Chatham Monday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the area of Given Road and McNaughton Avenue East at 4:20 p.m. Monday for that report.

Officers said when they found the woman, she was "highly intoxicated and unable to care for herself."

She was taken into custody and was held at police headquarters until she sobered up.

Blenheim man arrested after violent domestic argument

A 26-year-old Blenheim man is accused of pushing a woman to the floor and choking her after they got into an argument in Chatham on Monday.

Police said they got the call just after 7:30 p.m. Monday and learned that the accused had been arguing with the victim earlier in the day when things turned physical.

Officers said it escalated to the point where the man blocked the door, refusing to let the woman leave. He also allegedly pushed her down and choked her before she was able to get away and call police.

Police said the man they arrested in the case was charged with one count each of assault, assault causing bodily harm, and forcible confinement.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Wanted woman arrested overnight

A 60-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted for skipping her court date is spending some more time in police custody.

CK police said they saw the woman, who is "known to them from previous occurrences," in the area of Lacroix Street and Richmond Street at around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday and confirmed she was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

As a result, she was arrested and taken to police headquarters where she was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

The woman is currently charged with failing to attend court and failing to comply with a release order.
