Police find Chatham man 'crawling in the middle of the intersection'

A 38-year-old Chatham man spent some time sobering up in police custody after he was allegedly found crawling around an intersection while “highly intoxicated.”

Police were called to the intersection of Erie Street South and Middle Line in Merlin early Wednesday morning to investigate suspicious activity.

Officers were advised that a man was crawling in the middle of the intersection and located him.

Police said that the man was “highly intoxicated” and unable to care for himself.

He was transported to police headquarters and held until he was sober.

The 38-year-old was issued a provincial offences notice for public intoxication.

Man arrested for intimate partner violence

A 43-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after an argument with a woman turned violent.

Police said they began their investigation at around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday after an assault took place at an apartment on Talbot Street in Blenheim.

Investigators learned that a verbal argument between the man and the woman escalated into a physical altercation on December 22.

The Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats.

He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of January 29, 2024.

Blenheim youth arrested for mischief

A 14-year-old Blenheim youth has been charged with mischief after allegedly kicking a door while violating his curfew conditions.

Police launched a mischief investigation in October after being shown surveillance footage of the youth causing a disturbance at a residence on Delaware Avenue.

The video showed the youth attending the residence on October 1 at 9:38 p.m., kicking the door and then running away.

Police said the youth was later identified due to a recent encounter with officers.

It was later confirmed by police that the youth was under a curfew condition which prohibited him from being outside of his Blenheim residence between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

On Tuesday the youth was arrested and charged with mischief and failing to comply with undertaking.
