Blenheim man booked for breaching curfew

A 39-year-old Blenheim man is facing charges after he allegedly breached one of his bail conditions by leaving his house after his court-imposed curfew.

CK police said the man had been released from the court on August 12, 2022 with several conditions, including a nightly curfew of 9 p.m.

Police said despite that, they found the man on Flemingo Street in Blenheim when they were responding to a disturbance call at 9:49 p.m. Wednesday at an address that was not his residence.

He was arrested, charged with failing to comply with a release order, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Four crashes keep Chatham-Kent police busy on the road

The Chatham-Kent Police Service's Traffic Unit had a busy day on Wednesday responding to a handful of crashes across the municipality.

Police said the first collision was a head-on crash between a northbound vehicle and a southbound vehicle on Creek Road in Harwich Township shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said they learned the northbound vehicle had "failed to navigate around the bend" before the crash.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and only minor injuries were reported.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was charged with careless driving.

Police were called to a second collision shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday after a vehicle that was travelling on Kenesserie Road in Howard Township went off the road and into a hydro pole.

Officers said the driver lost control before the crash, but did not report any injuries and the hydro pole was not damaged. Police did not release any information on whether charges would be laid in the case.

In a third collision, a 68-year-old Dresden man was charged after a hit-and-run incident in Chatham.

Police said their investigation started just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when they learned that a vehicle that was turning south on St. Clair Street from Emma Street hit another vehicle that was heading south.

Officers said the driver of the vehicle that was turning onto St. Clair St. did not stop after making contact, but police were able to use a passenger's video to identify the vehicle and the driver responsible for the collision.

Investigators were also able to match the damage to both vehicles and charged a 68-year-old Dresden man with failing to remain at the scene of a collision and making an improper turn.

In the fourth and final case, officers said they were called to a collision where someone who was trying to avoid a collision ended up going off the road in Kent Bridge.

Officers said they learned that the vehicle that went off the road was driving on Kent Bridge Road in Rushton's Corners just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the driver moved out of the way to avoid a collision with a passing vehicle.

The driver involved in the crash did not report any injuries and police said the passing vehicle's license plate was not captured.
