CK police launch annual Festive R.I.D.E. campaign

Don't be surprised if you run into a police checkpoint throughout Chatham-Kent (CK) for the rest of the year.

CK police are once again conducting the annual Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign.

Starting Wednesday and ending at the start of the new year, officers will conduct checkpoints across the municipality to stop people driving impaired. The campaign starts each year on the National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims.

“The National Day of Remembrance is a powerful reminder of why initiatives like R.I.D.E. exist. Every impaired driver stopped could mean a life saved. Our officers will be visible and proactive throughout the holiday season to help ensure everyone gets home safely," said Lisa Rodger, Act/Sgt with the CK Police Service's Traffic Management Unit.

Everyone is reminded to plan ahead by arranging a designated driver, using public transit, calling a cab, or using a rideshare service.

Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is encouraged to call 911.
