Spitfires To Deal With Long Road Trip

It's going to be a season of long home and road stretches for the Windsor Spitfires, as the OHL announces its 2016-17 regular season schedule today.

One chunk of games that immediately sticks out is a 13-game road trip for the Spits between November 20 and December 28.

The City of Windsor's hosting the FINA World Swimming Championships at that time, and will be occupying much of the WFCU Centre.

Due to that string of road games, Windsor finds itself with a couple of other blocks dominated by home contests.

The first of those comes between October 9 and November 18, when the team plays 10 of 13 games in their own barn.

The Spitfires then close the season playing 10 of their last 14 games at the WFCU; taking on division rival Sarnia four times over that span.

Of the 34 total home games this coming season, there will be just two on Saturday evenings, one on a Saturday afternoon for New Year's Eve, nine Sunday matinees, one Sunday night contest, one on a Friday night and a rare Tuesday night game. The rest will be played on Thursday nights.

The season gets started September 22, when the Spits host Erie.
