A criminal investigation is underway into a 33 year veteran of the London Police Service.
Sergeant Dale Howe is the subject of an investigation by Niagara Regional police, but the details of what prompted the investigation are not being released.
"That is not information that we would be able to provide as it’s an ongoing investigation by another police service," London police Constable Sandasha Bough said in a statement emailed to BlackburnNews.com.
The request to have Niagara police look into Howe came from London police. Such requests are not uncommon, said Bough. However, it is not clear whether the investigation is linked to Howe's role with the force.
Before being suspended with pay last spring, Howe was assigned to the general investigation section and had previously served in the cyber crimes unit. Due to a provision in the current Police Services Act, an officer cannot be suspended without pay.
London police have directed any further questions surrounding the investigation into Howe to Niagara police.
Other than to confirm that they have been asked to investigate a member of the London police force, Niagara police have stated there is no other information they can release at this time.
"The matter has not been brought before the courts and it would not be appropriate to provide comment that would jeopardize the integrity of that investigation or negatively impact a LPS member at this time," said Niagara Regional police Constable Phil Gavin.
