Sting hang on, beat Knights 5-4 in overtime

The Sarnia Sting let a big lead slip away, but came away with an overtime win Sunday afternoon.

The London Knights fought back and forced overtime, but Sean Josling scored the extra-period winner to give the Sting a 5-4 win at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Sarnia is now in third place in the OHL West Division with 40 points. London is still leading the Midwest Division with 52 points.

The Sting put up a trio of goals in the first period, starting with Jamieson Rees' sixth of the season at 1:45 into the game. Brayden Guy doubled the Sarnia lead on the power play later in the segment and Alexandre Hogue followed up soon after with an insurance goal.

Cole Tymkin put the Knights on the board with the only goal scored in the middle period. It was his 14th of the year.

London then exploded with three straight goals in the third period to give themselves their only lead of the afternoon when it was said and done. Billy Moskal scored back-to-back goals almost five minutes apart to tie the game at 3-3, then Joey Keane scored the go-ahead goal on the power play at 10:01. Just 12 seconds later, Josling tied the game for Sarnia and it remained that way for the rest of regulation. Josling scored the winner at 2:34 into overtime.

Ethan Langevin saved 27 shots in goal for Sarnia. Jordan Kooy had 25 saves for the Knights.

The two teams complete their home-and-away series Monday with a special New Year's Eve matinee at Budweiser Gardens. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
