Drivers whose commute takes them along Wharncliffe Road are in for two months of traffic headaches and slowdowns.
Starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Wharncliffe Road South from Horton Street to the Thames River will be reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction. The lane closures are to allow London Hydro crews to relocate a large portion of existing utilities underground ahead of the massive Wharncliffe Road widening project planned for 2021 and 2022.
This map shows where Wharncliffe Road will be closed.
The lane closures are scheduled to last two months and will create congestion for drivers and cyclists through the area that travels under the train bridge.
The work will see the entrance to the Thames Valley Parkway (TVP) closed for five days as of 10 a.m. Monday.
"Pedestrians and cyclists can follow the detour signs along Riverview Avenue to access Wharncliffe Road South," the city said in a statement.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout construction.
