Three teens are facing charges after allegedly hosting a party that broke the province's rules about the number of people allowed at indoor events.
London police said officers were called to a house party on Mill Street neat Talbot Street on Friday night. According to police, about 100 people, many not wearing masks, were inside the home.
An 18-year-old and two 19-year-old men are now charged under the Reopening Ontario Act with participating in an indoor gathering which exceeded 10 people and hosting an indoor gathering which exceeded 10 people. All three are to appear in court in February.
The Mill Street party is the second in London to have resulted in charges.
"Gathering limits are in place for the health and well-being of everyone, and we will not hesitate to take appropriate action when our community is put at risk," police said in a news release issued Monday.
Police said another large gathering in the north end of the city is still being investigated and may have also violated the Reopening Ontario Act.
"We are currently in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the repeated messages from community partners have been clear – do not host or attend large gatherings; limit in-person interactions; follow health and safety protocols; and find safe ways to connect with each other," police said.
3 individuals charged after attending a house party on Mill St. over the weekend with approximately 100 people inside. Absolutely infuriating. This endangers our first responders, our healthcare workers, our long-term care workers, our most vulnerable, and so many others. #ldnont https://t.co/tuhha6ZEFG
