For a third straight day, the Middlesex London Health Unit has reported a record number of new COVID-19 cases.
The health unit reported 335 new cases on Friday, marking the biggest single day increase since the start of the pandemic.
A total of 17,081 confirmed cases have been reported in London and Middlesex County since March of 2020. The number of resolved cases is now at 15,230. There are now 1,594 known active cases in the community. On November 24, that figure was 138, while two weeks ago it was 338.
Fortunately, no deaths were reported Friday. The local COVID-19 death toll remains at 257.
The London Health Sciences Centre did not update its hospitlization figures on Friday. But on Thursday, it said it was caring for 15 patients with COVID-19, six of whom were in the Intensive Care Unit. It also said five or fewer patients were in Children's Hospital.
Ontario also reported another record number of cases. The province reported 9,571 new cases on Friday. Health Minister Christine Elliott said there are 508 people with COVID-19 in Ontario hospitals. Of those, 164 are in intensive care.
Ellliott also reported that 355 of the 508 people being treated for COVID-19 in hospital are not fully vaccinated. Of the 164 in intensive care, she said 136 are not fully vaccinated.
