Emergency repairs force week-long lane restrictions on Oxford Street

A main artery near the downtown, already slow during the morning and afternoon commutes, will be even slower this week.

Oxford Street West between Platt’s Lane and Fernley Avenue will have temporary lane restrictions for emergency sewer repairs starting on Monday. The lane restrictions will be in both the east and westbound lanes and are expected to last until the end of the day on Friday.

Drivers can expect traffic along this stretch of Oxford Street to be even slower than normal while the work is completed.

Pedestrians are also being told a section of sidewalk on the south side of Oxford Street West will be closed while crews work.

"People walking in this area are encouraged to follow signage about the closure to help reach their destinations," the city said in a statement. "Transit riders are advised to visit the LTC website for any service updates and detours and the most up-to-date information."

This is one of two spots in the city where repairs will be causing traffic headaches this week.

On Saturday, Bathurst Street between Maitland and William streets was closed to allow CN Rail to complete track repairs. That area is expected to be closed to traffic until Wednesday. A detour has been put in place.
