A truck driver is facing charges after crashing his rig on Hwy. 401 while allegedly intoxicated.
The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police were called to the crash just after 7:30 a.m. Monday. According to police, a transport truck had gone into the ditch on the westbound side of the highway in Dutton-Dunwich.
"While speaking to the lone driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure," police said in a news release issued Tuesday. "The driver resisted but was quickly subdued by officers, taken into custody, and transported to the St. Thomas OPP Detachment for further testing."
A 46-year-old man from Brampton is charged with impaired driving, three counts of breaching a probation order, resisting a peace officer, failing to surrender a CVOR certificate, and driving with an open container of liquor.
The man's licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and the transport truck has been impounded for seven days.
