Bruce Power has renewed its commitment to Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce.
The company is pledging another $75,000 over the next three years. That's an extension of a previous three-year, $75,000 donation.
The 2016 build is planned for Sauble Beach, while Habitat is working with the local First Nations communities to plan builds in their communities.
Greg Fryer, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce, says long-term commitments from corporations are important to the organization so it can plan new builds, which take two to three years from the purchase of land to the transfer of keys to the new homeowners.
"We are very appreciative of the continued partnership with Bruce Power in support of our mission to provide affordable home ownership to those in our community," says Fryer.
Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce has built eight houses in Hanover, two in Port Elgin and one in Tobermory, all with Bruce Power's assistance. Each new homeowner is required to invest 500 hours of "sweat equity" during the building of their new home.
"Habitat mobilizes volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing while promoting home ownership as a means to break the cycle of poverty, and Bruce Power is proud to assist in this important endeavour," says Bruce Power’s Vice President, Corporate Affairs James Scongack.
