Construction is underway on a stand-alone Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce in Owen Sound.
Board members and others gathered for a sod turning at the site on the city's east side. A fundraising campaign is also underway and $2-million of the $3.5-million needed has already been raised.
Executive Director Scott Lovell says he's certain the community will respond.
"We've long been supported by this community for our operation. They've seen the end of life care that we're able to provide and have backed that up with support in the form of donations and we've really appreciated that," says Lovell.
He adds the hospice will provide end of life care for all residents of Grey and Bruce.
"Since we first opened in May of 2013, over half our patients have come from outside the city of Owen Sound and split almost equally from Grey and Bruce Counties as a result of that. We are excited about a future that begins with the establishment of Chapman House."
The eight bed facility will be known as Chapman House, in recognition of the one million dollar donation from the Chapman Family of Markdale.
The new Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce is expected to open early next year.
