Wellington North councillors got their first look at a proposed 2019 budget during a special meeting this week.
Most members of council said they would like to see the tax increase held at about three per cent.
Council has yet to deal with capital spending. The initial wish list came in at $26 million, which all members of council agreed would need some serious surgery to hold the tax increase down to an acceptable level.
The municipality is facing major investments in aging infrastructure as well as investing to accommodate growth.
Mayor Andy Lennox said he is not averse to dipping into the municipality’s reserves or doing some borrowing in order to keep the tax increase at about three per cent.
