Bruce County's economic growth in 2018 can be directly linked to Bruce Power's Life-Extension Program, and 2019 is expected to be just as positive.
Throughout the year, the company signed over $2 billion in contracts with its supplier partners as it gears up the Unit 6 Major Component Replacement project.
Those agreements include $914 million in manufacturing contracts with four major Ontario businesses.
Over 40 nuclear supplier partners have opened offices and facilities or launched new businesses in Bruce, Grey, and Huron counties. These companies have created hundreds of local jobs.
The overall target is January of 2020, when the Unit 6 Major Component Replacement project begins.
Bruce County is also poised to become an international centre of excellence through the Ontario Nuclear Innovation Institute. A temporary information centre is in the office of the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries on Goderich Street in Port Elgin.
Several Bruce-Grey municipalities will be making presentations to Bruce Power early in the new year to become the permanent host community for the Innovation Institute.
James Scongack - Bruce Power Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Operational Services said, "the N.I.I. remains an incredible opportunity for us to change the world from the rural shores of Lake Huron."
