A product being sold as fentanyl is being blamed for an increase in the number of opioid-related overdoses in Grey and Bruce counties in the past two weeks.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit is warning people to use caution when using all drugs.
You can reduce the risk of overdose by not being alone, and not using at the same time as others, so someone is available to help.
You should also have Naloxone on hand. It's available for free at the Grey Bruce Health Unit, no appointment necessary, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. It's also available from some local pharmacies.
Naloxone can be used to temporarily reverse an opioid overdose. Overdose is a medical emergency and 911 should be called.
The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides some legal protection for individuals who seek emergency help during an overdose.
