Huron County's cultural services director wasn't completely surprised to see the Inter-library Loan program restored for libraries in Southern Ontario.
Beth Rumble said there had been some discussion at a recent workshop she attended suggesting it was a possibility. But she added there are still some questions.
She said their staff person who looks after that service is on holidays so they'll have to wait to see what adjustments they might have to make to their budget.
“We do also need to look at our budget to see still where we can make tweets," she said. "There will be a rebate for the postage fees that we incurred, but we just don't know how much of that it will cover.”
Rumble said she suspects some libraries will receive more, or less, than others.
“Libraries are still looking at what type of service they'll implement, moving forward," said Rumble. "Before, whether you were a net lender or borrower didn't make a difference because the service was centralized, whereas now you will be incurring the initial cost and then you will have to apply for the rebate."
She added they don't know if that will be enough to allow them to return to their full service.
Rumble said she believes the restoration of funding is permanent but says that hasn't been specifically pointed out at this time.
