The Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police confirms a 28-year veteran member of the OPP has been killed in an incident on Manitoulin Island.
Thomas Carrique advising that Const. Marc Hovingh succumbed to injuries sustained on Thursday afternoon in the Gore Bay area of Manitoulin while in the line of duty.
The Mayor of Gore Bay, Dan Osborne, says two officers were shot in the incident and the suspect is in custody.

Upon learning of the death, Premier Doug Ford requesting the flags at Queen's Park be lowered to half mast out of respect.

According to Government House Leader Paul Calandra, an Ontario Provincial Police officer responding to a serious occurrence on Manitoulin Island reported critically injured earlier today has died.
The provincial government has lowered flags to half mast to honour the officer, said to be a 29-year veteran of the force.

Reports out of Manitoulin Island indicate two Ontario Provincial Police officers have been shot.
According to the OPP's North East Region Twitter account, there is a heavy presence on Manitoulin Island in the area of Scotland Road and Hindman Trail.
According to one tweet, officers were "investigating a serious incident". at approximately 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
Now, OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique has a tweet on his personal account, indicating that a 28-year OPP veteran has been critically injured in the incident.
