Huron Shores Area Transit introduces advertising program

Huron Shores Area Transit has introduced an advertising program to generate supplementary revenue.

Huron Shores Transit Coordinator Susan Mills said the advertising program will help the transit agency transition to Ontario’s Gas Tax Fund in 2025, ensuring the continued provision of public transit in the region.

“This is important because it becomes part of our financial contribution in the formula for Ontario's Gas Tax Fund," she said. "In a sense, it helps determine how much we qualify for under that fund.”

Mills explained under the Ontario Gas Tax funding there is formula in which they assess the contribution of the agency relative to what they would quality for under the fund. So the more revenue they can generate reduces any contribution that the municipalities would need to provide.

Mills said the advertising program’s first phase offers headliner ad card advertising opportunities that display above the bus windows, ensuring maximum visibility for all passengers. She said the future expansion of the program will include transit shelter, bench, and bike rack advertising options. She says the program provides more opportunities for local businesses and organizations to showcase their products and services to local residents and area visitors while supporting public transit.
