Huron County's lower-tier municipalities have launched a new Community Safety and Well-Being for Huron website.
Stacey Jeffery, Community Relations Manager for South Huron, says the site was a collaborative effort between all nine lower-tier municipalities. She says it is based on the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan for the county.
"Truly the website is a centralized location for sharing the information about the plan, so the four priority areas of the plan. Mental Health and Addictions, Housing Stability and Homelessness, Domestic Violence and Community Security. So it truly is a centralized location for the community to learn about the plan, as well as access information about the priority areas, including supports, which is crucial," Jeffery explained.
Jeffery says staff from the lower-tier municipalities hope everyone uses the website to educate themselves on the Community Safety and Well-Bring Plan. She adds not only does the site highlight the four main areas of focus when it comes to community safety and well-being, it also includes information on local supports to help address those areas.
"So what we've done is, we've gathered across the entire county a network. We work collaboratively with different partner organizations to make sure that within those priority areas, that we've identified what supports are out there. So community memebrs can go to the website and search to see what supports are out there and how to contact those supports," added Jeffery.
The site also features campaign messaging around the priority areas, as well.
"Which highlights key information, as well as important numbers that people should know when they're seeking help within those priority areas. As well, the website does host some of the indicators and reports related to the priority areas. That way, as a community safety and well-being committee, we can track progress in terms of, year-over-year what trends we're seeing within the priority areas," Jeffery noted.
"The Plan addresses the root causes of crime and complex social issues by focusing holistically on social development and risk prevention by utilizing a social determinants of health lens to recognize the social, economic, and environmental conditions that affect health, safety, and well-being," a statement from South Huron said. "By addressing the four priority areas, the Plan aims to prevent crime and enhance safety and community well-being by addressing issues before they arise or incidents occur."
