A bone-chilling start to the week for people across midwestern Ontario.
Environment Canada has the entire region under a yellow-level cold warning as the wind chill is making it feel like minus 30 outside on Monday morning.
Anyone planning to spend anytime outside is advised to dress in layers to keep warm and avoid cold related ailments such as frostbite. In these conditions, frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, Environment Canada noted.
Outdoor workers should take breaks regularly to warm up and pets should not be left outside.
Signs of cold related illness include shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
Conditions are expected to improve Monday afternoon, though the temperature will remain below freezing at minus 7. Tuesday, the temperature is expected to be warmer than normal for this time of year with a daytime high of minus 1. The seasonal high for early February is minus 3.
