Cyclones Late Charge Not Enough

The Listowel Cyclones out shot Waterloo 23-6 in the third period but only beat Siskins' goalie Mitchell Datz once as Waterloo won Game 2 of the quarter-final series 5-3.

Waterloo started off with the momentum, scoring on a wrap around at 4:04 of the first after forward Lucas Goodman picked off a pass behind the Listowel net. Cyclones forward Blake Nichol evened things up when a rebound landed near the goal line in the Waterloo crease.  The Siskins were able to break the tie just over four minutes later and ended the first period with a 2-1 lead.

In the second period, Cyclones' defenceman Kade Landry was able to score on the power play, when he snapped a shot glove side high. But Waterloo scored less than two minutes later to regain the lead. Then on the power play late in the second, Waterloo scored to take a two goal lead.

In the third period, Listowel poured on the shots but were not able to tie the game and Waterloo scored on an empty net to make the final 5-3.

A late boarding call on Listowel put Waterloo on the power play and the empty net goal was scored while the teams were 5 on 5.

Waterloo is now up 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Game 3 is Tuesday night in Listowel at 7:30pm and the game will be broadcast on CKNX.

Other scores: Stratford 9 Brantford 1 (Cullitons lead the series 2-0) Brantford 4 Kitchener 3 (Kitchener leads series 2-1)
