Brian Masse announces run for seventh federal term

If Brian Masse has his way, he will serve his seventh term as the MP for Windsor West after the federal election in October.

In Jackson Park Friday morning, the long-serving local politician announced his plans to run for re-election.

Before his career in federal politics, Masse also served two terms on Windsor City Council, but he said every election is different, and running for re-election is never routine.

"I think that I have to earn every single vote," Masse told BlackburnNews.com.

What is different this time around is Masse will not have his step-father or father by his side during the campaign. They both passed away recently.

"I wanted to make sure my family and the balance of these things all fit together, so it took a little while to get to that point," he said. "I'm there."

Masse said his priorities for Windsor West remain creating a new national auto strategy, affordable housing, and making sure the border works to the advantage of his constituents. He noted his first meeting on issues at the border was in 1997, and while much has changed since the construction of the Rt. Honourable Herb Gray Parkway and the soon-to-be-built Gordie Howe International Bridge, there is still work to be done.

Masse said he also plans to continue to work for a national pharmacare program, and bringing down the cost of cell phone service for Canadians.

The Progressive Conservative Party Association in Windsor West will hold its nomination meeting May 12, while a date has yet to be set for the Liberal nomination meeting.
