Ontario Provincial Police have charged three men in connection with a September shooting in Essex.

Officers and paramedics arrived at a parking lot on Walker Road in McGregor on September 10 to help an injured person. The victim was treated in hospital for a gunshot wound.

The OPP announced Tuesday that three men were arrested last week in connection with the shooting. All three are charged with robbery involving a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, and public mischief.

Also, 44-year-old Kalakech Ammar of Lakeshore is charged with possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and possession of cocaine.

Ali Kemal Zaidan, 35, of Windsor is charged with discharging a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner, pointing a gun, and wearing a disguise to commit an offence. He is also charged with failure to comply with recognizance.

A third suspect, 30-year-old Hamzah Moses Abusofah of Windsor, was also arrested.

These charges have not been proven in court. Ammar and Zeidan remain in custody, pending a hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor. Abusofah has been released from custody with a court appearance set for December 10.

The OPP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this case.
