Libraries are allowed to open in Stage 3, so the Windsor Public Library plans to open some of its branches by the end of August.
It operated a curbside pick-up program during the pandemic, and only recently, it opened up computer services at select branches.
As of Monday, August 31, it will re-open the Central branch downtown, along with the Budimir and Riverside branches for full service. Customers will have access to computers and library resources, although meeting rooms will remain closed.
Customers will be asked to self-screen at the door, and social distancing is expected of visitors.
If all goes well, the remaining branches will re-open Tuesday, September 8, and the curbside program will end.
"We have spent considerable time over the past several months preparing to re-open our doors," said Windsor Public Library Chair and City Councillor Rino Bortolin. "At all times, we will follow provincial re-opening guidelines and direction from the Windsor Essex County Health Unit."
Throughout the re-opening, staff will monitor activity in the branches and make adjustments where necessary.
"We are all anxious to open and see our customers again," said CEO Kitty Pope.
Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has declared non-medical face masks must be worn in all indoor public spaces, including libraries.
