Class dismissed from Brennan High due to COVID-19

A cohort at a Catholic high school in Windsor has been sent home due to a positive coronavirus case.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board reported Friday afternoon that the class was dismissed from F.J. Brennan Catholic High School.

"We learned of the confirmed cases [Friday] and informed the affected students that they are not to return to school when classes resume on April 19," said board spokesman Stephen Fields.

The board's official website, as of Friday afternoon, showed just one confirmed case at Brennan involving a student. Classes will proceed as usual at the school after April Break.

The English Catholic board reported 21 positive cases of COVID-19, 18 of them are students and the rest staff. Fourteen of the board's buildings are affected. Just one of those buildings, St. Peter Catholic Elementary, is under outbreak protocol with five active cases.

Meanwhile, there were 14 active cases within the Greater Essex County District School Board Friday evening, according to the Ontario Ministry of Health, all involving students.

Conseil scolaire Viamonde, the French public board, has one active staff case at a Windsor school. The French Catholic board, CSC Providence, has four active student cases in Windsor-Essex, plus one staff member.
