Windsor mayoral candidate Chris Holt is making some pledges to some of those feeling the effects of inflation the most, small businesses and seniors.
If elected, Holt pledged to support small businesses by freezing all small business license fees until 2026.
"Businesses are struggling to hire new employees and find a pay structure that works for their own bottom line. They need more money to be able to focus on payroll and hiring rather than municipal licensing fees," said Holt.
He also pledged to hire a BIA coordinator at City Hall and create a BIA support program so the city can collaborate with events and other projects.
For seniors, Holt pledged to provide transit service and all community centre programming free of charge.
It's estimated that could result in a $1.2 million revenue loss to Transit Windsor.
"It's about building the community we want. It's building the transportation system we need, and it's also honouring the people that have generated and given and built the economy of our city by helping them get around and live a vibrant life," said Holt.
Holt said by attracting more seniors to the service the city can collect more gas tax from the federal government to improve the service.
Also running for mayor in the city of Windsor are Benjamin Danyluk, Aaron Day, Matthew Giancola, Ernie Lamont, and Louis Vaupotic.
Election Day is October 24, 2022.
