Sarnia Public Library is on track to reopen Monday August 21, with the hope of staff returning to the Christina St. site as early as next week.
The facility has been closed for substantial cleaning work after a basement fire occurred July 13.
County of Lambton Corporate Cultural Advisor Andrew Meyer says its been a very thorough process.
"Certainly there has been a lot of work involved on the part of the city, as the building owner, looking after some of the electrical components and also some of the work related to smoke remediation," says Meyer. "On our side, as the library service, we've been focused on getting the contents and the furnishings cleaned and preparing for reopening the building."
Meyer says the transformer where the fire originated and some electrical components have been replaced.
He says issues related to water penetration in the basement were also addressed.
As many as 30 Sarnia Library employees have been temporarily laid off during the closure.
Meyer says staff have been given the opportunity to collect employment insurance, draw on vacation days or bump workers at the Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery as outlined by their unions collective agreement.
