Sting goaltender Anson Thornton made 36 saves and was named the first star in Sarnia's 5-3 win in Guelph Wednesday night.
The Sting jumped out to a 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the game -- Theo Hill and Nolan Burke each found the back of the net.
The Storm made it 2-1 midway through the first period, but Sarnia answered back with two more goals in the opening frame. Nolan Dann scored his 14th at 13:58, tying Burke for the team-lead in goals, and Ty Voit potted his eighth goal with under a second on the clock, making it 4-1 after 20 minutes.
Guelph tilted the ice in the second period, outshooting Sarnia 15-5 -- Thornton turned away all 15 shots to keep it 4-1 heading into the third period.
The Storm kept the pressure on in the final frame and made it 4-3 with just under 12 minutes to play. However, Hill would restore the Sting's two-goal lead with about 11 minutes on the clock, his second of the game and ninth of the season.
"They were coming," said Hill. "I know [coach] Letang called that timeout to get us back into the game. Honestly, I just saw the puck squirt by [the Storm defenceman], beat him, lifted his stick and put it in the net."
The Sting shut the door the rest of the way, en route to the 5-3 win.
"It was a big win for us," said Hill. "Especially after coming off [our 5-3 loss to Kitchener]. Letang talked to us and set us straight on what we were supposed to do tonight -- focus on the little things and come together as a team, and it paid off for us in the end."
The win improves Sarnia's record to 10-10-3-0 on the season.
The Sting are in Kitchener Friday night before wrapping up the week with another road game in Erie Sunday afternoon.
