Thousands expected at Sarnia Labour Day parade

Organizers are pleased to celebrate the local workforce during the annual Labour Day parade in Sarnia.

Sarnia and District Labour Council President Nick Dochstader said this is the parade's 120th year.

"We have a few thousand people participating in the parade and at least that many would be watching from the sidelines," he said.

The parade will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. on Monday from the corner of Wellington Street and Christina Street. The parade route will go down Front Street toward Centennial Park.

"We do have some old entries returning, like the Elks Lodge. There are some new entries, like the Tomatosoup Band, to bring something different to the parade that people haven't seen before."

After two years of COVID-19 restrictions, Dochstader said marching units are eager to return to some normalcy with this parade.

Dochstader also emphasized that the parade is meant to celebrate labourers and will not act as a political event where candidates or dignitaries are "showcased" ahead of the municipal election.

The theme for this year's parade is "labour makes it happen". The parade will be held rain or shine.
