Weeks of preparation will pay off when thousands of lights twinkle across Centennial Park this weekend.
The switch will be flicked turning on Sarnia's annual Celebration of Lights display Saturday.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Dean Holtz said everything gets underway at 5 p.m.
"We're going to start with a Christmas carol concert with a really good local band, and then Santa is going to come in and help us count down to turn on the lights, which is always exciting. It's what, really, everyone is there for," said Holtz.
Holtz said once the lights come on, fireworks will be set off.
"We're actually one of the only few other community events that have fireworks and I don't know too many others that would even have it this time of year. People really look forward to that," he said.
There will also be photos with Santa and horse drawn wagon rides.
"We've got a lot going on," Holtz said. "Cogeco is going to be there handing out some popcorn. We've got vendors for food. It's going to be a great time."
Holtz said the community support this year has been heartwarming.
"We actually had, as far as I know, probably the highest number of volunteers come [help at] community set up day," he said. "It was a beautiful day, which always helps, but we really appealed to the community and they came through. We got pretty much everything we had hoped we could get done. There was still a little bit left to do, but we had a few volunteers that were working away at that to get things done."
Holtz said a lot of people see the event as their kickoff to the Christmas season.
"We're just really impressed with the entire community that has rallied behind this. We have well over 100 sponsors. Some donate funds, which is amazing, others donate their time or things for us, which is equally amazing, and then all of the people who help out and volunteer to make this happen, set up and then of course tear down in about a month as well. It really is a community initiative and we're happy to be a part of it," Holtz said.
Admission is free.
