Lambton Shores council has passed a budget of just over $51 million with a tax increase of 4.21 per cent.
The municipal taxation represents an increase of approximately $21 per $100,000 of residential assessment.
The 2024 budget was approved (as presented) during last week's council meeting.
The operating and capital budget was amended after a full-day discussion was held on January 15. The document was also updated, as per council request, after the February 6 regular meeting.
As such, $398,814 was added to the operating budget but only $100,073 was required from taxation.
The approved operating budget reflects over $33 million in expenditures while the capital budget amounts to $18 million.
Mayor Doug Cook credited staff for their work in putting the document together.
"It came in a little higher than what we anticipated it to be but overall, we've been running very conservative budgets in the last number of years and unfortunately, with inflation and the extra cost of doing business, we had to increase our budget this year," he said.
Cook said the budget mainly focused on regular maintenance and upgrades that were due.
This week, Lambton County also set its budget with a tax hike of 5.5 per cent.
