Upgrades have recently been completed at the Sarnia Legion because of a funding boost from the province.
Sarnia Legion Branch 62 was awarded $150,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
The funding went towards the replacement of its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system.
President Ron Realesmith said technicians told the Legion it had to be replaced.
"If we didn't we were looking at total failure which would've meant no air conditioning, no heating for our building. We would have closed the building at that time until the money was raised," he said.
The Legion's original HVAC system was installed in the 1980s, and has had many upgrades and costly repairs since.
According to Realesmith, the new system was turned on two weeks ago.
"I'm relieved because it was a real concern that the building would not be able to operate any further if we lost that HVAC, so we're very fortunate, very blessed and honoured to be receiving this funding," he said.
The boost from the Trillium Foundation was included in the Legion's Centennial Capital Campaign, which Realesmith said has a total fundraising goal of $350,000.

"This is to perform other major upgrades that need to occur and it's all infrastructure, like replacing some bricks that have been damaged through water damage (and) our front pillars which are starting to become end of life," Realemith said.
A ribbon cutting was held on Friday at the Legion to showcase the new HVAC system.
Other upgrades are expected to be announced later this year.
