Redeemer Lutheran celebrates Christmas with annual live nativity

A Christmas tradition continues on the front lawn of Sarnia's Redeemer Lutheran Church.

It's the annual Live Nativity Scene with Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, wisemen and shepherds, as well as live sheep and a donkey named Lily.

Spokesperson Sheila Ginn said it's a community effort to put on the tableau every year.

"And we change the scene up, so we need two sets per night times two nights,  plus the people in the kitchen, plus the people in the dining room, plus the dressers," said Ginn. "So, it's definitely a production."

Ginn said the live tableau at the Indian Road church goes back over 40 years.

"It's a tradition that Pastor Roger Ellis brought to Sarnia in 1979 when he came here from out west and we have continued it, except for a break with COVID, we have continued it all this time," she said.

The live nativity scene will be on display on the front lawn of the church at 429 Indian Rd. N Saturday, December 21 and Sunday, December 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night.

Observers are welcomed into the church hall for coffee, hot chocolate and cookies.

Ginn said pastor Colton LaMay will lead community carol singing beginning at 7 p.m. both nights.
