UPDATE: Hwy. 3 crash kills child, injures four

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a 15-month-old was killed in a crash on Monday.

Police were called to the intersection of Hwy. 3 and County Road 31 just after 10 a.m. on Monday, along with Essex Windsor EMS, and the Leamington and Kingsville fire departments. The Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Unit was also summoned.

Five people were taken to the hospital. Three of them suffered minor injuries.

Police say the toddler was riding in an involved SUV. They were rushed to hospital but have since passed away from their injuries.

The driver of the SUV, a 33-year-old woman, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash shut down the highway between County Road 34 and Morse Road, and between County Road 31 and County Road 18. Those stretches have since reopened.

Investigators hope anyone who saw the crash or has dash cam footage of it will call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or go to www.catchcrooks.com.
