Crash Shows Need For Awareness

The crash on Hwy. 401 yesterday that tied up traffic for hours has OPP officers again reminding drivers to be aware of conditions.

The crash happened in a construction zone where there is only one lane of traffic in each direction.

Constable Janine Belanger says two trucks had been stopped possibly because of heavy traffic and were rear-ended.

"In this stretch of highway the posted speed limit is 80 km/h, not only that, but we stress to leave a lot of room between yourself and the vehicle ahead," she says. "Be very aware of what the situation is, we are down to one lane each way."

Belanger says when construction began there were a number of crashes in that area, but there had been fewer recently, likely because people were more aware of the construction.
