Windsor police have issued a public warning after phoney prescription pills concealing fentanyl were seized.
Members of the Windsor Police Service Emergency Services Unit arrested three people Thursday night on Wyandotte St. E near Louis Ave. Police say 68 suspected fentanyl pills made to look like prescription drugs were seized.
Two sets of counterfeit pills were confiscated by police. One is stamped "APO" on one side and "OCD 80" on the other. The other set is stamped "OXY CR" on one side and "W80" on the other.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge says this confirms offenders are concealing dangerous fentanyl powder within counterfeit pills, so they appear as legitimate pharmaceutical drugs. The pills seized in this bust were made to look like prescription oxycodone pills, which have a bigger street value than fentanyl.
A search warrant was executed later Thursday night by the DIGS (Drugs and Guns) Unit at a home on Gregory Pl. off Little River Acres Dr. There, about 2500 g of suspected cannabis was found, along with cannabis resin, a sawed-off shotgun with ammunition, four cell phones, and a digital scale. A total of $550 in Canadian and U.S. currency was also seized.
Ahmad Abusafeyeh, 28, of Windsor, has been charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, ten counts of breach of recognizance, and two firearm-related offences.
Tarek Sabbah, 26, of Windsor and Kalakech Ammar, 42, of Lakeshore, are each charged with possession of a controlled substance, and possession of suspected fentanyl for the purpose for trafficking.
Fentanyl is highly addictive and extremely dangerous. It can be fatal in small doses.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has supplied information on these dangerous drugs and where people can get help if they need it.
